Biography
Kristof Keidel is a postdoctoral researcher in cognitive psychology at the University of Bonn, Germany. His research focuses on how people make decisions over time, with a particular emphasis on intertemporal choice, temporal discounting, and the role of impulsivity in valuing immediate versus delayed outcomes. More broadly, his work examines the cognitive, neural, and clinical factors that shape such decisions, with implications for everyday decision-making and mental health.
Kristof received his Ph.D. through a joint doctoral program between the University of Bonn and the University of Melbourne, where he investigated impulsive decision-making from an interdisciplinary perspective combining experimental psychology, psychometrics, and cognitive neuroscience. Methodologically, Kristof employs a broad range of techniques, including behavioural experiments, computational modelling, eye-tracking, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). He frequently integrates these approaches to obtain a comprehensive picture of the processes underlying decision-making.
His findings have been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, Human Brain Mapping, Frontiers in Psychology and npj Mental Health Research. In recognition of his Ph.D. work, Kristof received the UGB Dissertation Prize from the Universitätsgesellschaft Bonn (2025).
In addition to his research, Kristof is actively involved in teaching and supervision, contributing to undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology. He is also currently supervising a large international research project as part of the Junior Researcher Programme.
