The Institute of Biomedical and Neural Engineering (IBNE) was established to coordinate large-scale, multi-disciplinary research initiatives between Reykjavik University, University of Iceland, Landspitali University Hospital and Med-Tech companies.
The IBNE institute draws together scientists, medics and engineers from across Iceland to create revolutionary progress in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, tissue engineering and clinical research. IBNE operates within the Medical Technology Center (MTC), which is an infrastructure established by Landspitali and Reykjavik University to strengthen the impact of Biomedical Engineering expertise in clinical environments.
In addition to its Icelandic partnerships, IBNE engages in extensive collaborations with research institutes, universities, and companies worldwide. This global network fosters a diverse community of researchers, students, and educators from various backgrounds, enriching the institute’s innovative efforts.
IBNE expertise ranges from Neuroscience to Biomechanics, from Health Informatics to Computational Biology and research areas like biomedical signal processing, motion and sea sickness and knee cartilage and chondral lesions solutions. In addition, IBNE is a world pioneer in 3D printing for patient-specific surgical planning.
The IBNE is the reference for research and study in biomedical engineering in Iceland, which has had an impact on several international projects.
