Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esin Öztürk Işık completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Computer Engineering at Middle East Technical University. Later, she earned her master's degree from the Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Afterwards, she pursued her doctoral studies in the joint Bioengineering program at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, San Francisco. Subsequently, she conducted postdoctoral research in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco.
Currently, Dr. Öztürk Işık serves as a faculty member at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Boğaziçi University. The main objective of her projects is to develop new molecular MRI techniques to enhance the understanding of the biology underlying brain diseases. The technical projects in her laboratory focus on designing new algorithms for collecting, processing, and quantifying molecular MR imaging data.
Additionally, her lab is working on developing machine learning-based computational methods for MR image analysis. She has received funding from the European Union, TUBITAK, and the Department of Defense, USA, for several research grants. The primary project funds for her laboratory have supported efforts to develop clinical decision support tools aimed at improving the quality of life for brain tumor patients and individuals with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Öztürk Işık is an active member of ISMRM and ESMRMB and has served on the technical and conference organizing committees. She has been actively involved with NeurotechEU as a member of the Education work package.
