Dr. Özbay holds extensive academic and research experience, having completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NINDS, NIH). She earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from ETH Zurich and University Hospital Zürich. Prior to that, Dr. Özbay obtained a Master's degree in Computational Science and Engineering from the Technical University of Munich and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Boğaziçi University.
As the Principal Investigator of MIMLAB, Dr. Özbay has been leading the lab for the past two years, overseeing a diverse team of 15 students across various educational levels and backgrounds. Her research primarily focuses on the integration of advanced neuroimaging techniques, including fMRI and EEG, to explore the complex interplay between brain activity and physiological processes under various conditions, such as alertness, different levels of attention, and drowsiness. Additionally, her lab focuses on multi-parametric mapping in MRI to better delineate brain structures, providing deeper insights into structural and functional relationships.
Dr. Özbay is actively involved in international organizations such as ISMRM, ESMRMB, and OHBM, and has been invited to deliver numerous presentations over the past decade. Her research interests span across Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), functional MRI (fMRI), EEG, neuroscience, and physiology.
